'Indiana Jones 5' is unlikely to happen, says producer

Indiana Jones 5 is unlikely to be made, according to producer Frank Marshall.

A fifth installment has been discussed ever since the 2008 release of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, but Marshall - listed as the film's producer - has implied that that movie is likely to be the franchise's last.

"I say, for me, [Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is] the last hurrah," Marshall told Collider. "I know that yes, we talk about it, but there's no idea, there's no MacGuffin."

George Lucas announced his retirement from filmmaking in May, and Marshall confirmed that he is not keen to make another Indiana Jones film.

"Yeah, no, he isn't [hungry to do another Indiana Jones], and he's obviously passing the baton to my wife," Marshall said, in reference to the fact that Marshall's wife Kathleen Kennedy is set to take the reins at Lucas's studio Lucasfilm.

It was reported last year that Lucas was still trying to "find the MacGuffin" for a fifth Indiana Jones film.

Hell, the last one was so bad, you would hope a 5th was never considered at all.

OMG, how does news like this slip through the cracks? Think of all the great franchises that have become unshackled. The legendary VII VIII & IX!!!!!

I thought Kingdom of the Crystal Skulls wasnt that bad. Wasnt as good as Raiders or Last Crusade but it wasnt a horrible flop either.

Seriously,that's not a horrible idea.
Keep Lucas and Speilberg on board,or start from ground up?

I don't know if they would be on board to reboot their own franchise, but certainly keep them in the loop for ideas if they are interested. If the Indiana Jones Franchise is to move forward ever, it will have to be a reboot. Could have cameos of the the original characters playing other parts as a nod to the once storied franchise, but it needs to be rebuilt from the ground up with actors that today's audiences will go see and it be believable to them. Who on Earth believed Indy was capable of much else than putting up a sign that said, Keep off my lawn!!! In that last film?

Yeah,I'm thinking give George and Stephen producer credit(a slice of the pie)and run with it.
Actually,I'm liking a reboot more and more.
Any ideas for the cast?
Also would they exist in the same universe as the old flicks,or just totally reimagined ala' The Dark Knight? One thing this reboot has going for it,IMO.There is no source material except the films themselves. The door is wide open.
