Deion Sanders, the Pro Football Hall of Fame cornerback for the Dallas Cowboys and an analyst for the NFL Network, joined the Ben and Skin Show on KESN-FM 103.3 in Dallas on Thursday. Some excerpts:
On if the emphasis in the off-season should be on defense:
You've got to focus on secondary play. We all blamed everything on Wade. Now we see it's not Wade. ... Wade is the same Wade that had the No. 1 or No. 2 defense down there. He's up for a head coaching job I think. We realize that it's not Wade. Sooner or later you're going to look at the players and say, 'Guys, you got to play ball.' I'm surprised Rob Ryan isn't bald right now. I know some of you guys get tired of him, and his antics. He's a Ryan. Is he going to shut up and be humble? That's not him. That's not who he is. That's not who his brother is. That's not who his father is. He's a Ryan. And I like it. And I understand the mannerism and I know a little something about play-calling and tendencies about other teams and he was calling the right stuff. These guys just didn't execute it. Sooner or later you're going to start looking at the personnel and start challenging these guys to make plays instead of always pointing fingers at the coach.
On the Cowboys' line:
I think the young line that they've implemented is going to be OK. I think those guys are going to be pretty good. Your running back went down. Before he went down he was getting 20 yards a game. Somebody was blocking. So I really do like those guys. I think they're going to be OK. Especially once they learn the game. ... You've got to understand with that offensive line they were running the heck out of the ball, and Tony can throw it downfield with the best of them.
