More In Common For Lee, Carter Than ILB

Sean Lee and Bruce Carter have more in common than their position (inside linebacker) and draft status (second round in 2009 and 2010, respectively). On the Cowboys' personal draft board, they both should've been first-round picks if not for injury flags.
For Lee, it was primarily a season-ending torn ACL as a junior in 2009. For Carter, it's a torn ACL suffered last November that threatens his availability for the start of a normally-scheduled training camp.
The Cowboys felt the reward outweighed whatever injury risk (past or present) is involved. Lee missed two games last year and battled relatively minor quad, hamstring and shoulder injuries as a rookie last season, but showed flashes of his starter potential.
"We thought in both cases that those injuries helped us because both were second-round picks," Jerry Jones said. "So in that end you are probably getting players in the second round, like I said for Carter, that are first-rounders."
Jones cited the profiency of head athletic trainer Jim Maurer and associate athletic trainer Britt Brown, who oversees player rehabilitation, as factors for taking Lee and Carter.
"We are one of, we may be the only team in the NFL that has two trainers, frankly almost equal trainers with one of them totally dedicated, Britt Brown, to rehab and that particular area," Jones said. "So I am real comfortable when we take a player that is in rehab because of the attention we give it and Britt Brown.”
