Victor Butler suspended four games for PED violation
Posted by Josh Alper on April 10, 2015, 3:20 PM EDT
Under the best of circumstances, linebacker Victor Butler was going to have to perform well in offseason and training camp work to land a spot on the Giants’ 53-man roster come September.
The circumstances won’t be ideal for Butler, however, after he was suspended by the NFL. Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that Butler has been suspended four games for a violation of the league’s policy on performance-enhancing drugs.
Butler signed a future contract with the Giants after the end of last season, which saw him spend time with the Cardinals and Colts and play in two games for Indianapolis. A Cowboys fourth-round pick in 2009, Butler played 63 games in Dallas before signing with the Saints as a free agent before the 2013 season. A torn ACL ended his year before it started, however, and Butler hasn’t been able to latch onto a regular role since the injury.
This suspension won’t help his chances of doing so with the Giants, who signed J.T. Thomas and Jonathan Casillas as free agents to go with Jon Beason, Jameel McClain, Devon Kennard and Mark Herzlich at linebacker.
