In his weekly Monday Morning QB column, Sports Illustrated's Peter King discussed the free agency of Oakland Raiders cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha.

King called the Asomugha sweepstakes, "The race for the best defensive free agent since Deion Sanders."

In his list of most likely suitors, King ranked only the Philadelphia Eagles ahead of the Cowboys.

"Rumors (and they seem to be more than that) are flying that the Eagles are going to strike quickly and spend big money in free agency," King wrote.

As for his thoughts on the Cowboys chances:
  • "Go back in history. Remember when Jerry Jones, against the wishes of son Steven, gave Deion Sanders a $13 million signing bonus in 1995 to come to Dallas? (Jerry thought his son was going to punch him over it.) Jones has the ability to fit Asomugha under his cap. With Tony Romo and DeMarcus Ware the only huge-money players on the roster, the Joneses can find a way to shoehorn an Asomugha contract into the fold."
King also named the Baltimore Ravens, New York Jets and Seattle Seahawks as possible landing spots for Asomugha.

He ended the topic by writing: "We'll see, but my guess is Asomugha ends up in the NFC East."

I'm serious. If we further bastardize our cap for another f'n cornerback, and a 30 year old one at that, I may officially lose my mind.

I don't want blow all that money on a corner either. I think we need to bring in system guys and inexpensive ones.

We have bigger needs along the defensive line and at safety. That's where we should be looking.
