IRVING, Texas -- The Jason Garrett era of the Dallas Cowboys started on Wednesday, and it had a different feel than the Wade Phillips regime.
Garrett, who took over for Phillips as the interim coach on Monday, had his new team practice in full pads for the first time since training camp.
The Cowboys who are 1-7 and mired in a five-game losing streak visit the New York Giants on Sunday in East Rutherford, N.J.
Garrett said he expects a different effort from the one Phillips got the first eight weeks of the season. That effort placed this team in last place in the NFC East and made it one of just two one-win teams in the league.
Not only were the Cowboys in full pads, but players jogged to team stretching exercises during the 20 minutes the media was allowed to watch practice on Wednesday.
"Everybody moving, everybody moving," Garrett yelled out to the players under a clear sunny day.
As the special teams drills were going on, Garrett barked out to several players.
There were two noticeable absences from practice in starting linebackers Bradie James (knee) and Anthony Spencer (neck), who are nursing injuries.
