Patrick Crayton stayed away from most of the off-season program and organized team activities because he felt he would not have a fair shake of keeping or earning a job with the Cowboys in 2010.

It appears his fears could be realized. Due to make $2 million this year, Crayton could be one of the final cuts when teams have to trim their roster down to the league-mandated 53-player limit. The Cowboys have had talks about trading Crayton and/or Sam Hurd recently, but the same reason the Cowboys will have a hard time keeping one or both is the same reason why they will have a difficult time making a trade.

Hurd is scheduled to make $1.759 million.

"Crayton sincerely appreciates the opportunities provided by the Cowboys organization and is excited about new opportunities that await, whether with the Cowboys or another NFL team," his agent, Fred Lyles, said.

The Cowboys granted Lyles permission to seek a trade in the off-season but nothing came to fruition. Crayton had a productive training camp and did nothing to lose a job ... except have a $2 million base salary.
