North Carolina junior defensive end Robert Quinn has visits with the Cleveland Browns, Washington Redskins, San Francisco 49ers, Dallas Cowboys, Buffalo Bills and the Baltimore Ravens, according to a league source with knowledge of the situation.
The pass rusher solidified his upper first-round draft status with a blazing 4.57 time in the 40-yard dash at the Tar Heels' Pro Day workout after running a 4.62 at the NFL scouting combine. Plus, the 6-foot-4, 265-pounder also bench pressed 225 pounds 24 times and registered a 10-5 broad jump.
Quinn was suspended for the entire season last year due to NCAA violations by accepting two expensive watches. And he declared for the NFL draft one year removed from recording 11 sacks as a sophomore along with 19 tackles for losses and six forced fumbles as he finished second in the ACC
Projected as one of the top 10 selections in the NFL draft, Quinn is no stranger to adversity as he had brain surgery for a benign tumor during his senior year of high school.
Known for his explosive burst as a pass rusher, Quinn has rare speed, flexibility and capability to bend and turn the corner.
National Football Post previously caught up with Quinn for the following e-mail interview:
What do you feel sets you apart as a football player and a pass rusher?
"I feel that my speed off the edge is unmatched."
What sort of specific feedback and comments are you getting from NFL teams?
"They love my ability to rush the passer, but they want me to work on my run contain and they showed concern about me not playing this year."
How much do you feel like your Pro Day performance will boost your stock with the improvement from your combine testing?
"I feel like it showed my full athletic talents. I improved my forty time and showed that I can be a dominant pass rusher."
What kind of person will the team that drafts you be getting?
"They will be getting a very hard working player that will leave it all on the field and off. I'm also a team player and my goal is to get as many rings as possible."
How tough was it on you last season when you weren't allowed to play?
"It was horrible. It's was the worst feeling not being able to play and letting my teammates down."
How much will missing last season make you appreciate football again whenever you're playing again?
"More than anyone will ever know. I worked on refining my game and I believe it will make me appreciate the game even more."
What did you learn from that whole NCAA experience?
"That you can't trust anyone."
You've been through adversity before with the brain tumor. What did that teach you about yourself as a person and how much did that build character and put football and life in perspective?
Are you going to attend the draft in New York at Radio City Music Hall and go to the NFLPA events or one or the other?
"I hope so. Not 100 percent though."
Is there an NFL player you emulate or pattern your game after?
"I enjoy watching Dwight Freeney. He plays so fast and so hard it's amazing."
Have any NFL teams talked to you about playing outside linebacker?
"Yes, a few."
What teams have you worked out for or will work out for before the draft? What teams have you visited or will visit?
"I visited a lot of teams in the top 10 and some in the middle. I've only worked out for a few of them."
How high do you think you might go in the draft? Your stock is very high at this point.
"I'm hearing top 7-10, maybe higher. Can't know for sure."
What do you make of the labor dispute between the players and the owners? Are you hopeful that a deal will get worked out eventually?
"I believe the players should stop being pushed around by the owners and step up and that is what their doing. Yes, I believe it will get done, BUT not until we get what we think is fair. We need safety and financial security...that's all."
