Don't Be Surprised If the Dallas Cowboys Overpay for Charles Woodson
Recently-released Green Bay Safety is on the Market

COMMENTARY | Unlike last year, the Dallas Cowboys won't be big-time players in the free agency game this offseason.
With the limitations the Cowboys have in cap space, the only noise they may make in early 2013 is what they can do in the NFL Draft. That'll be the best chance to fill the holes that are glaring needs on this roster.
But with what money the Cowboys do have, if any, safety has become the position that has been needed to be filled for the last couple of years. Ironically enough, there are some quality safeties in need of a home this year.
You could probably cross Dashon Goldson, Jairus Byrd and possibly Ed Reed off the list. But with the news that Charles Woodson is now available, does he go near the top of the list for the Cowboys?
Yes, but at what cost?
Woodson is 36 years old and he missed nine games last season with a broken collarbone, and has broken it twice in the last three years. But his agent Carl Poston said that the former Defensive Player of the Year has "a lot of football left."
He wants to go to a Super Bowl contender and finish his career with that team. I'm not saying that the Cowboys are remotely close to being Super Bowl contenders, but if the opportunity is there, Jerry Jones will do everything he can to bring Woodson to Dallas.
Which is why no one should be surprised if management overpays Woodson for what he's truly worth.
He won't be getting a big-time contract to make him a top-paid defensive player like he once was. He still has a lot of value to him, and he can still be a quality player when healthy.
If the title window is truly closing on the Cowboys, then Jerry and Stephen Jones will do everything in their power to put the right pieces in place to win.
Even if that means overpaying certain players like Tony Romo and whomever else they decide to bring in.
Yes, the Cowboys should contact Woodson and his agent and attempt to bring him to Dallas. But don't be surprised if they add in another $5 million or so to the deal.
The Cowboys are that desperate of a franchise right now.
