Cornerback Orlando Scandrick and outside linebacker DeMarcus Ware are tied for the team lead in sacks for December, with two each.
That is the norm for Ware, trying to finish among the league's top 10 in sacks for the fifth consecutive year. Scandrick's strength is pass coverage, but he has shown himself to be a good blitzer in the nickel defense.
As the nickel cornerback, Scandrick draws coverage on a slot receiver. According to defensive coordinator Paul Pasqualoni, Scandrick is adept at not giving away his intentions and getting a good jump when he blitzes from that spot.
"He has a good feel for disguising it and then making a play when he does get the opportunity," Garrett said.
Scandrick has a sack in each of the last two games, giving him 2 ½ for the season. Safeties Michael Huff of Oakland and Lawyer Milloy of Seattle lead the NFL in sacks by a defensive back with four. Scandrick ranks third among cornerbacks, trailing Kansas City's Javier Arenas and Drew Coleman of the New York Jets. Each has three sacks.
Safety Bill Bates set the Cowboys' record for sacks by a defensive back with five in 1984.
