Wide receiver Kevin Ogletree is getting every chance to take a big role in the Cowboys offense.
He’s starting just his third year in the league, and he has only 10 catches in 17 games. So he doesn’t have experience on his side. But Cowboys coach Jason Garrett puts him in the category of “instinctive player.”
“Guys who have instincts for getting away from people and getting open – I think that’s the first thing when you talk about receivers,” Garrett said. “Can you get away from someone? Man-to-man coverage in the National Football League – can you beat the guy?”
Garrett said he considers Ogletree a receiver who can do that.
"He has a good feel for playing the game. You can go throughout every position on your football team and there are some guys who are big and fast and quick but if they don’t have instincts to play they probably aren’t as successful as they could be. The best players I’ve been around at every position are instinctive players. If you’re instinctive and you have the physical traits necessary you have a chance to get open and be successful. I think Kevin has all of those things.”
Ogletree caught three passes for 34 yards in six games last year, when he missed most of the year with a toe injury. As a rookie, he caught seven passes for 96 yards.
