In their on-going search for improved blocking near the goal-line, the Dallas Cowboys have resorted to using 326-pound guard Montrae Holland at fullback on short-yardage plays.

Holland has appeared at the position for two plays with the Cowboys at the opponent's one in recent games. Keeping with the season-long pattern, the offense failed to score on both plays.

``Montrae's got the body type of the most massive fullback,'' interim head coach Jason Garrett said. ``He's a smart guy and a willing guy. We've used him with some moderate success.''

The Cowboys overall have been ineffective when near the opponent's goal. They have scored only seven touchdowns on 21 plays from an opponent's one. That includes only four touchdowns on 14 runs from the one.

``It's a hard yard,'' Garrett said. ``It's an area that we constantly emphasize. ... We've done a good job at it at times this year, and other times haven't."

``It's an emotional-type situation. You have get lower than the other guy and beat the other guy. We've done well at that at times and at other times have not been as good.''

I hope that's coach speak. At no point have we been anything more than awful down at the goalline.

This is sad. A serious indictment against the Oline. This was never a problem with the Cowboys of the 90s. Never. Now we got to resort to gimmicks. Kind of shows how useless Gronkowski is. Phillips cannot get back soon enough.
