INDIANAPOLIS -- The NFL held a meeting Thursday night with three members of every organization to brief them on the current labor talks.
A general manager, coach and another high-ranking team official were asked to attend.
Jerry Jones, the Cowboys owner/general manager, did not attend the meetings, he arrived in town while the meetings were going on.
Instead, Jason Garrett was joined by Stephen Jones, the executive vice president/director of player personnel and Todd Williams, the director of player administration. Williams handles player contracts.
Tom Ciskowski, who is the director of college and pro scouting, was busy dealing with college players and wasn't available.
Now this does not mean, Jerry Jones isn't apart of what's going on with the labor talks. Jerry Jones has plenty of influence in the league and is kept abreast of the labor talks. He is chairman of the television committee.
As for what was said in the meeting, Stephen Jones wouldn't comment but is confident a new labor agreement can be reached.
"We’re optimistic and we’re getting prepared to play football," Stephen Jones said. "That’s what we do as an organization, the negotiations are up to the people who are negotiating."
The Cowboys haven't made any major moves regarding their roster. Jerry Jones said he expects the Cowboys to have the highest payroll in the NFL for the second consecutive year in 2011 but the uncertainty of the CBA makes things tricky.
"We’re prepared for anything," Stephen Jones said. "We treat it like we’re moving forward on March 4 like there’s going to be football, if there’s not then, we know how we respond next. We assume all the way through in terms of our preparations, something will get done."
