IRVING, Texas -- Jason Garrett wants the Cowboys to watch the playoffs this weekend to let it sink in what kind of opportunity they missed in 2010. If they do watch and a game goes to overtime, then they might need a refresher course on the new rules.
The only way a game can end in overtime on the first possession is if the kickoff is returned for a touchdown or a defensive touchdown.
If that doesn’t happen, then both teams will have at least one chance to score. If both teams open with field goals, then the game moves to sudden death.
The Cowboys wanted the rule to be used in the regular season but were OK with it starting in the playoffs.
