We're not sure when a new collective bargaining agreement will go into effect. However, there's a chance the new salary cap will be $128 million and the Cowboys have $137.4 million devoted to the 2011 roster. That doesn't include draft picks or undrafted free agents.

It seems the Cowboys have to make some moves to get under the proposed cap.

*If the Cowboys release Terence Newman, they save $4 million in cap space.

*Letting running back Marion Barber go saves $4.75 million if he's a post June 1 cut under the old rules.

*A departure by Leonard Davis saves $1.834 million.

*Of course everyone's favorite target, Roy Williams, counts as a $12.9 million cap hit.

*The Cowboys are also expected to let go of Marc Colombo, who is expected to receive a $2.6 million option bonus within the first 15 days of the league year. His base salary is scheduled at $1.9 million.

New CBA rules could dictate a lot of different things, so this could change.

The Cowboys could then save some money in 2011 if they restructure some of the current contracts of veteran players.

Tony Romo’s base salary in 2011 is $9 million, Miles Austin gets $8.54 million and DeMarcus Ware will earn $6.7 million. The Cowboys can lower the base salaries down to the veteran minimum ($765,000 for Romo and Ware and $640,000 for Austin) and turn the rest into signing bonuses.

Calvin Watkins should just stop talking about the cap. Last week he said "The Cowboys could release veteran receiver Roy Williams as a cost-saving move" but now he is once again counting as a $12.9 million cap hit. Just walk away, Calvin.

The problem with cap talk is you never know who really is correct.

You can read three different articles and they'll quote different numbers. Then you always get an AdamJT of the board who is like no, no, no...here's the real deal.

All I know is our cap situation sucks.

This is true, it does suck. I've run Roy's cap numbers a hundred times and always come up with something different. I've contacted someone who is a true authority on the salary cap game to see what they have to say about it. Hopefully I get an answer soon that will allow me to work out the rest of the numbers.

And that's not to say Cythim is wrong. He might be totally accurate in everything he's saying. I just don't know and can't know if he's right.

I said this same thing to that Adam geek years ago. Not you're full of shat. Just how do I know that you're right.

I think the future zoners had a grief counselor available to them after that one.

I haven't read much of what Adam does. Personally, I have only been trying to figure out this Roy Williams thing. Anything else I come up with is a byproduct of trying to discern when we can lose Roy without taking a big cap hit. Worst case scenario IMO is dropping Roy now, taking the extra $1 million it will add to the cap, and being free of his $10+ million cap number in 2012. That is if Calvin's math is right.

If Roy wasnt such a goddamn curse we could probably restructure him so his number is low for the next few years if he wants to stay w/ the cowboys(and knowing he wont exactly cash in on the open market).

But being the curse that he is they will probably burn him off for one more year

Sounds like boards all over internet.com use Adams stuff as a guide. He doesnt really answer any questions so if he doesnt know something I dont think he would post it.

The anti-sdogo. He probably has more information then he shares as to not risk a slip up. Rather than "Hey everyone, currently throwing this shit out there if it sticks Im going to never let you forget about it. If it misses stfu and wait for my next one"

The NFL needs to make salary numbers as easy as the NBA. The NBA off-season and trade markets drive tons of interest.
