Listening to the day 2 presser, Jerry says Demarco Murray was at the top of their board when they made the pick and was the clear BPA by a complete round over the next guy.

Face.

And I won't even mention that Larry Lacewell was contacted to get his opinion on Bruce Carter before the pick was made.

So basically Barry Switzer and Larry Lacewell hand picked our 2nd and 3rd round picks yesterday.

What?

The only way I can justify that is if they were simply dismissing this kids injury history - which is a mistake.

I'm a proponent of going BPA route in the later rounds, but I really, really can't get behind this pick at all.

I made a sarcastic remark about Lacewell weighing in on Tyron and Carter. If that's legit, then I'm sick.

What the fuck?

which could also mean our board sucks.

Wait.

If what he says is true, and the board truly sucks, then there shouldn't be a complete round of separation between players like that. That would mean all of their 1st and 2nd round projections are off the board except for Murray. So the NFL agreed with those evaluations. If a board truly sucks, you should have 1sts and at least 2nds littered on your board when you're in the 3rd round.

I don't actually think our board sucks. I just don't think that since Jerry says he was a round better than anyone else on our board that it is actually true or accurate.

I seriously must have tuned in for all 4 games then because I swear he was out every time I watched them play.

He missed four games.

He has an injury history but it's way overblown around here. People act like he never played.

He is banged up a lot.

And that was in college. It's not going to go away in the pro's. He's going to get killed.

Again, I'd love for him to prove me wrong. I'm rooting for it. I just don't see it.

I think you are right about what you said earlier in that we have drafted 3 really good football players. We also shouldn't reach for needs. At the same time, we have to stop blatantly ignoring needs. Bruce Carter is a talented linebacker and could be a damn good starter in 2 years, but is that going to be 2 years of losing since we can't stop teams from going over the top, beating us deep? DeMarco Murray has some flash to him and will contribute on special teams and maybe as a receiver out of the backfield. It's not going to matter if we still can't convert third and short because our offensive line can't consistently win the battle of the trenches. We need to stop drafting "sexy" picks when there are players who can come in and contribute as starters. Who cares how good our depth is if our starting 22 has subpar players riddled in it.

I just don't agree. They had Carter as a first round talent. I don't see why you would pay for your scouting department and then ignore their grade on draft day.

We drafted Tyron Smith. There are more OL prospects available today, starting with a very good Clint Boling. The Murray pick didn't end the draft for us.

For a guy who was always injured and beaten up, he ranks pretty high in their record books in just about everything for a RB from what I read. And they have a rich RB tradition.

Still would have preferred OL or DL, but I think the kid has alot of talent and will fit in well on our offense.

How can anyone be worried about how a part-time player's health will fair is beyond me. I doubt he ever gets more than 10-15 touches in a game.

So this idea that he's going to limp through every NFL season in Dallas is unfounded and ridiculous.

I'll like this pick more when I read about Marion Barber and Tashard Choice being cut. If even one of them is still on the roster this year, the Murray pick is fail.

You don't draft 3rd string RBs in round three and you sure as hell don't draft to fill holes on your special teams units in the 3rd round either.

If Murray is challenging for a starting spot this year, then I'll probably change my tune. As it stands right now, I can't get with it.
