Bling draft

I know you guys want a meat and potatoes draft. Sheik: "did someone say meat and potatoes?!!", but...

1st (18)-- Cordarrelle Patterson, WR, Tennessee

I know, I know, we have bigger problems than the need to select a complementary WR in the 1st round! But as has been pointed out, we put a claim on Josh Gordon in the supplemental draft; so we are interested in adding another big target opposite of Dez Bryant and using a potentially high pick in order to do that. Also think of this; the Green Bay Packers chose Randall Cobb in the 2nd round nearly 3 years ago when they needed substantial help on the Oline, plus already having Jordy Nelson, Greg Jennings and James Jones at WR, and look at how that pick has turned out. Cobb is one of the most dangerous players in the league. Cordorrelle Patterson brings all those same skills but in a 6'3" 205lb. frame! He could go higher than 18th, but then again, him only being a 1-year FBS player could turn off some teams.

2nd (47) -- Barrett Jones, OL, Alabama

Every year, players highly touted by fans before the draft fall farther than previously pegged. The reasons for Barrett Jones falling into our lap are quite simple: the infusion of a ridiculous amount of underclassman and the fact that Barrett is a jack of all trades player, master of none. While not a bad thing, it could damper how teams in the 1st round view him despite his impressive pedigree and versatility. I think Mackenzy Bernadeau could do an admirable job as a starting C, but I think we deserve better than him. At the least, Jones would be an immediate starter at RG.

3rd (80) -- Gavin Escobar, TE, San Diego State

This selection has nothing to do with Jason Witten's age, but everything to do with the trend of teams looking to put two, athletic TEs on the field at the same time. Very good teams such as San Francisco and New England are utilizing the two-TE scheme to great affect. I've always liked the idea of the 2-TE offense because it makes it harder for an opposing D to recognize pre-snap if the play is going to be a run or a pass, and Jason Garrett needs all the help he can get in that department, as his offensive game-plan is quite simple, as noted by NFL players. Not only is the trend going to having two, gifted TEs on the field at the same time, but one who plays like a PF in the NBA; able to run down the court, for our reference the football field, and just catch lobs. Gavin fits that bill to a T. He is also pretty creative after the catch for a man his size.

4th (111) -- Zavier Gooden, OLB, Missouri

Right now the Cowboys are at an impasse. They brought in Monte Kiffin to run his version of the Tampa-cover 2, at the moment possessing a bunch of candidates for the SOLB role, but no true leader in that race. Monte Kiffin also recently spoke about his want to add plenty of speed to the defense. Enter Zavier Gooden. There aren't many, if any, LBs in this draft as fast as Gooden is, and he has drawn at least one comparison to Zach Brown. It would be a coup if we grab that type of player in the heart of the draft.

5th (144) -- David Bass, DE, Missouri Western State

You all know my thoughts on Bass: weak-side pass-rusher with the necessary length and bulk to be an every-down DE. Despite being a small-school guy, he is very refined in his pass-rush technique and hand usage already. Also has a knack for batting a lot of passes at the LOS due to his innate ability to read and judge when the QB is about to make his throw.

6th (175) -- Matt Summers-Gavin, OL, Cal

The last pick for every team is generally a weird type of time with guys seemingly coming out of nowhere to go in these spots. A few years ago we plucked a little-known guy out of Auburn with our last pick by the name of Jay Ratliff. Now even though these two aren't even remotely similar as prospects, I highlight the fact that both were versatile gamers who logged a lot of experience for major college football programs; Ratliff moved all over the defensive line for Auburn, and Summers-Gavin has logged time at both left and right tackle at Cal. Both didn't/don't possess the desired size for their respective positions either; Summers Gavin is around 6'4" 300. That is OG range. I've read a Seahawk fan say that their GM has a certain rule; they judge prospects by what they can do, not for what they can't. It hasn't hurt them drafting an undersized pass-rusher at 15 (Bruce Irvin), taking a chance on a huge cornerback (Brandon Browner), and selecting a tall safety (Kam Chancellor re: Patrick Watkins). So the bottom-line is, keep Summers-Gavin at OT as he is an exceptional movement player.

I'm a UT fan and I want nothing to do with Patterson. He's dumb, and he's a showboater. Could've made a number of big time catches this year against tought SEC opponents but he went for flashy one handed catches.

Also don't think the drug kingpin in the third is neccessary because we have a stud young TE named Hanna.

That's funny because I read on cbssportsline that either Dooley or his wr coach praised his work ethic and football acumen.

And if we're going nacho to the 2-te offense we'll need plenty of te's. Hanna woulda make great depth.

I'll be honest. A WR draft pick in 1 or 2 wouldn't shock me at all. Especially now that the UT coach is the WR coach.

I wouldn't mind moving back though if someone like SF or Miami wanted to move up for a WR. I love the guys that are slated for 2 right now.

I wouldn't mind trading completely out of round 1 at all. The latter half of the 1st kinda sucks.

Of the UT receivers... Justin Hunter will be the best pro.

That guy is going to be a stud.

NFLDS has him at 67 right now.

I've said this before, but he's Alvin Harper with a work ethic. He was playing this year off of a torn ACL.

Also, NFLDS rankings are odd.

If he's there at 47, I hope we snag him up. The guy will be a very very good pro.

I agree. They are all over the place. I hope things start to clear up a bit after the combine.
