Miles Austin admits he’s not having his best season but says the money didn’t change him

When the Cowboys gave receiver Miles Austin a six-year,$54 million contract, it was assumed he would build on last season’s breakout numbers of 81 catches for 1,320 yards and 11 touchdowns.

And since he caught 20 passes in the first two games, it was considered money well spent.

However, with one game left in what has been a dreadful season for the Cowboys, a different story has been told.

Not only are Austin’s numbers down _ he has 67 catches for 979 yards and five touchdowns _ but he is fourth in the league in drops with 10.

“I’m not having my best season,” Austin said. “Last year I had a better year. We were just working better as a team.”

Austin, however, said it would be wrong to link his drops or declining numbers to him being changed by his contract. He said he is the same guy and is doing the same things. The only splurge he made this season was buying his parents a new house in New Jersey. They has been living in the same one he grew up in.

“I’m doing the same things I have been doing,” Austin said. “I haven’t bought anything new. But I am buying my parents a home. I’m just focused on the next game, getting better every day and finishing the year out strong.”
