WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- Drew Rosenhaus, the agent for Cowboys cornerback Mike Jenkins, approached the team about a contract extension.

The team hasn't exchanged financial numbers yet with Rosenhaus, but there is hope Jenkins can continue to play with the Cowboys long-term.

Last season, Jenkins shared the team lead in pass breakups (10) and finished with just one interception.

Jenkins played the bulk of the season with neck, knee and shoulder injuries. Jenkins' shoulder was so bad he couldn't lift his arm above his head and he underwent offseason surgery.

Rosenhaus said Jenkins should be ready in time for the start of training camp in late July.

Jenkins, who is in the final year of his contract, will make a base salary of $1.052 million this season.

During training camp last year, the Cowboys gave nickle corner Orlando Scandrick a five-year, $27 million contract extension with $10 million guaranteed. This offseason, the Cowboys signed cornerback Brandon Carr to a five-year $50.1 million deal.

We should have extended Jenks when we could have did it for nearly the same money we extended Scandrick for.

^^^ exactly.

Apparently Stephen is world's better than Jerry but it sounds more like wishful thinking to me just based on some of these personnel decisions.

I think he'll come relatively cheap still.

Since his awful 2010, he hasn't really played like a top money earner at his position. He played much better last year, but not top notch. Injuries will be a bargaining chip also.

No thanks... I don't trust this guy honestly. He can't stay on the field and the effort isn't always there (lack of physicality)

I would sign Jenkins soon. Right now we are going into next off-season with Jenkins, Anthony Spencer, Victor Butler, Kenyon Coleman, Brodney Pool, Felix Jones, L.P. Ladouceur (long snapper), Stephen McGee, Phil Costa (good riddance), and Jermey Parnell all being free agents. 7 or 8 of those players are starters or key contributors. I'd rather not go into another off-season with so many immediate needs.
