Unless it's a PC load letter problem at the fax machine, the Cowboys could be waiting to finalize their coaching staff before sending out any official announcement. Still, all indications are Rob Ryan is soon to be hired, or already has been, as defensive coordinator.

If indeed they are waiting for Ryan to get his position coaches in place before making the hiring official, we should probably get to know some of the guys who are presumably top candidates.

Ryan may not want to bring all these guys with him, and in fact his former employer might not be ready to let them go, if they're still under contract, but these three men made up Ryan's defensive staff with the Browns last year:

Bryan Cox, Defensive Line - After 12 years as a linebacker in the NFL with the Dolphins, Jets, Patriots and Saints, Cox began his coaching career under Eric Mangini with the Jets in 2006. He was the assistant D-line coach there for three years, then left with the Mangenius to come to Cleveland and work under Ryan in 2009 and 2010.

Matt Eberflus, Linebackers - After working at his alma mater, Toledo, from 1992-2000, Eberflus in 2001 moved up to Missouri, where he was defensive coordinator and secondary coach from 2001-05, then associate head coach/defensive coordinator/safeties coach from 2006-08. He joined Ryan with the Browns in 2009 for his first NFL experience.

Jerome Henderson, Defensive Backs - An eight-year NFL veteran who retired from the Patriots after the 2001 season, Henderson went into the mortgage business until 2005. He then served as assistant secondary coach and director of player development for the Jets in 2007, and was promoted to the full-time defensive backs job in 2008, and followed Mangini to take the same role with the Browns in 2009 and 2010.

Cox sounds like he might be more a Mangini guy than a Ryan guy.

That said, Mangini is unemployed, so I'm sure if Ryan offered him the gig, his loyalty would be to Ryan.
