McCarthy: Nick Barnett out of starting lineup

Packers coach Mike McCarthy confirmed at the Wisconsin Pro Day Wednesday that ILB Nick Barnett is no longer considered a starter.
"We line up tomorrow, it’s A.J. and Bishop," said McCarthy. Barnett would be the highest paid backup linebacker in the league if he receives the $6.025 million he's due in 2011. $375,000 of that amount is available in an offseason roster bonus, so Barnett may not even make it to training camp with the Pack.

Wow. Way to shit on a tenured leader.

I don't follow the Pack to closely. Is this warranted?

Barnett can still play, but they made the SB run with his backup. He missed 11 games last year due to injury.

They will probably go with Chillar as backup because of the money difference.

I envy their fans. It must be nice to root for a team that doesn't give two shats about tenure and only cares about production.

Around here, any production and the "GM" makes you Teflon Don for the length of your career.

I envy them because they know how to draft well.

Des Bishop is an up and comming star so I can understand why Barnett is expendable. They'll probably rangle a 4th round pick outta him so Ted Thompson can pull another up and comming star out of his rear end.

That's what good GMs do.

Are they really up and coming stars or is it Dom Capers' system? People forget how that defense stunk it up to where they went 6-10 in Rodgers first year as a starter and they had many of the same players that they do now. Their defense that year in 2007 was as bad or maybe worse than what our defense displayed this past season. Take Capers out of the equation and we'll see how "up and coming" those players are.

I think Capers certainly has a lot to do with it.AJ Hawk went from being a potential bust to playing very well in Capers' regime.
Plus,Barnett told Capers "I'm an inside LB"when asked about switching last year.

I don't know about potential bust. Maybe not living up to his billing, but his stats looked pretty good his 1st 2 years.

If the Cowboys had Capers---don't get me started.... they may have been hoisting a Lombardi. Ok, that mighyt be a reach because Wade would have messed it up somehow. All we can do is hope that Ryan does for the Cowboys what Capers did for the Packers.

Eh,perhaps bust is overstating it,Bob.

But the guy was taken 5th overall. That's some pretty rarified air for a LB.

Maybe the Pack reached a little,IDK.He was a 2 time All American and won the Lombardi Award as a senior.

I like his game, and Capers lets call him LB sets, which he's good at.

I'd have called Hawk a bust up until last year. You don't draft a guy at 5th overall to get you 80 tackles a season.

This was pre Raji, Matthews and the emergence of Tramon Williams.
