Cowboys Stadium has been open for two-plus years without a naming-rights sponsor. If owner-general manager Jerry Jones is to sell those rights in a soft market, he is going to receive less than expected.
According to the Sports Business Journal, the New Meadowlands Stadium is in ```very advanced but not complete'' negotiations to become the naming rights sponsor for the New York Giants and the New York Giants. Like Cowboys Stadium, the facility outside New York City opened last year without a sponsor.
The publication said the rights fee would be for about $18 million per year. That is less than the initial projections for the stadium. If the New Meadowlands Stadium reaches this deal, it would set a market price that would have an impact on negotiations between the Cowboys and potential stadium sponsors.
