Marcus Spears: Don't believe the hype

Cowboys defensive end Marcus Spears said it's time for the Cowboys to walk the walk and forget about all any preseason talk that had them going to the Super Bowl.

``I don't know what's in everybody's head,'' he said. ``I know in my head that we have to play to beat people. Every time we step on the field we gotta feel like we have to dominate whoever we're playing against and we have to play well to beat them.

``This is the NFL, man. There's always hype around Dallas, there's always hype around what we're going to do before the season starts. But when those games actually start happening, you have to win them.

``Either you get it right and you get it figured out and you discontinue this path you're on or you make a decision not to. The good thing about this team is we can make the decision to do something about it and we have the guys to get it done.''

Dominate? When is the last time Dallas, let alone the defense dominate? Not in your time Spears.

They were dominating at the end of last year, minus the Vikings game.

I'd even say that Dallas defense dominated against Washington last week. The same Redskins team that hung 400 yards passing and 27 points yesterday.

They need to figure out how to get back to that.

If they don't next week they will give up 40+ easily.

That was stopping an offense, not dominating. I forgot to mention this about me. And you check other sites I go to about this. I have not liked the Dallas defense since they switched to a 3-4 and haven't like them for years now. I don't think they have many playmakers where it counts. I know it sounds convenient now to type this, and I still root for them of course, I just like Dallas better when in a 4-3.

Your not dominating shit, unless you stop giving up the football and making mental mistakes.

No accountability, and no trust with the players and coaches.

The defense just had the longest Cowboys streak since the 70's of consecutive quarters without a TD allowed broken in this game.

I'd say they're not the problem.

Spears is a leader of men.

And I'm not just talking football team level. I mean U.S. President/World Leader/I wouldn't rule out God.

And that is great accomplishment.

So is possibly creating a turnover or two to help out the rest of the team that is struggling. Which is becoming more and more impossible.

Agreed.

I'm just saying, the defense is the last area of the team to point to for our problems. They had a rough game yesterday but they've been really good on a consistent basis before that.

Yes, they have been good, for years now. I am just hoping that next level comes where the turnovers start coming. I mean, they definately don't put the offense in too many bad spots. Not like the offense does to the defense, but, that defense needs to create some turnovers.

I don't know why we don't get turnovers. Because usually that's a case of a QB working out of a comfortable pocket. Pressure leads to mistakes. Over the last three years, our defense has been at or near the top in terms of QB pressures and it just hasn't translated to turnovers.

It's not like when Zimmer was here and we were occupying and engaging our way to no big plays. We're pretty aggressive with our front seven. We should be getting them. I'm shat out of ideas as to why we're not.

We've even usually been ahead in most games in the 2nd half which should help you cause some turnovers.

I'm sure a legit rangy FS would help this situation but I don't think that's the entire problem.

A ballhawking FS and a stout DB alongside of Jenkins I think would do wonders as well.
