Marc Colombo on the Cowboys' line: 'We're going to change people's minds'

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Colombo watched the Redskins' loss from home as an Alex Barron penalty wiped out a touchdown pass on the game's final play. With Colombo back, Barron goes back to the reserve role.
Yet even before the regular season started, there have been questions about the line, which Colombo has heard.
"People are down on the offensive line," Colombo said. "And just a few years ago people considered us the best in football and now that's different. We're going to change people's minds."

I just want to see if we can get our shit together with our regular starters, but God forbid if we break down again like we did last year, you know it's coming.

I don't think you were ever considered the best, Colombo. In fact, I think you all have been overrated, if anything.

For as big as we are, and as many Pro Bowlers we have . . . we sure seem to have a hard time converting short yardage situations.

Exactly, we need to be able to convert on short yardage, and in the redzone.

It's difficult with this group, we have a solid line when all healthy just not a great one.

We really need to get back to the days of pounding the rock, and in order to do that we need to draft our future offensive line starting in this next draft.

The trouble is "pounding the rock" isn't taking advantage of the current rule structure of the NFL. The rules that exist make it easier to pass the ball than to run it. And the teams that are better running it, than passing it don't seem to score at the same rate as do passing teams. Jaworski has said numerous times that it's the passing game that creates the points and I agree with that.

Then you have the situation where you have some very good wide receivers and tight-ends.

This team is committed to the passing game, and if the passing game doesn't click then it's over.

As far as the offensive line goes, it could be better, and we've seen that it could be worse. If it weren't for the penalties, I thought the offensive line played a decent game against the Redskins. The penalties put a black-eye on things.

No, not the best in football, but better than they are currently... Much better.

This is the worst, sure. But they've sucked for years. You just weren't aware of it, apparently. We've been one of the worst short yardage teams in the league for years now. Garrett schemes his way to a running game.

If you can't move the pile in short yardage you will always be a poor red zone team.

If you struggle in the red zone, your offense is severely limited.

Better have a great defense and special teams to overcome that or your season's ending early.
