Cowboys Mailbag
Does it concern you that the Cowboys' future left tackle, Tyron Smith, was not able to win that job at USC? Is it possible he's a right tackle only?
GARY SHUFORD - MOORESVILLE, NC: Does it concern you that the Cowboys' future left tackle, Tyron Smith, was not able to win that job at USC? Is it possible he's a right tackle only?
Nick: It might have been an issue if Free wasn't in the mix, but since he is, might as well play him where he fits. I think that issue is a product of the lockout and people are looking for something to analyze. I see it as a non-issue because you're going to put a high priority on both spots. Might as well get two that can play.
Josh: I don't see it as an issue based on his skill set. Everything we hear about the guy is that he's a great athlete. I've got to think they kept him on the right side at SC because the guy they had on the left had been in the position longer than Smith had been a starter. In my mind he's going to be a left tackle eventually, only staying on the right side if the left tackle position is in great shape.
JAMES LANGLEY - PASADENA, CA: What are the plans for Robert Brewster? Can he be a player in the future?
Nick: I would think he saw where he stood in the "plans" last year when he was cut and put on the practice squad. I think if he's not moved to guard at some point, then he will never make it.
Josh: I'm not sure what the Cowboys' plan is. I can't imagine why they haven't played him at guard yet. He seemed to do OK last year when he was forced into the lineup at tackle, but they don't have a place for him out there anymore, and I don't think he'll ever be able to play consistently in space because of the extra weight he carries. I don't really understand their hesitancy to move him inside.
