Machota: What advantages does The Star provide Cowboys? Where does Jason Garrett rank among NFL coaches?
By Jon Machota
Staff writer Jon Machota recently held a chat about all things Cowboys. Here are some highlights.
What does the Star offer the team in terms of training facilities that Valley Ranch did not?
Machota: "A lot. Valley Ranch's best days were a long time ago. The Cowboys are essentially going from one of the most outdated facilities in the league to the best. They have everything they need out in Frisco. As Jason Garrett has pointed out, the players, coaches, trainers, etc. will have no excuses. Everything is state-of-the-art. They'll actually have a cafeteria instead of having all of their meals brought in. The weight room, the training room, the offices, everything is much bigger. I got a chance to take a tour about a week ago. There's still quite a bit of work to do, but it's going to be the best in the NFL when it's completed."
Where does Jason Garrett rank 1-32 on the list of current NFL coaches?
Machota: "I'd probably have him somewhere in the middle of the pack. My top 10 would include Bill Belichick, Pete Carroll, Mike McCarthy, Bruce Arians, Sean Payton, Mike Tomlin, John Harbaugh, Ron Rivera, Gary Kubiak and Andy Reid. Garrett would likely be somewhere around 15. I might be a little higher on him than most. I know there are those who think he has no business coaching an NFL team. Believe me, I've read the comment section, tweets and emails. But I think he's a good head coach. And even if things ultimately don't work out in Dallas, I've always thought he'll still get another opportunity to be a head coach in this league."
