The Cowboys have released nearly half of their offensive starting lineup from last season and the roster continues to embrace a youth movement.

Head coach Jason Garrett seems to have his hand in on the changes, meaning he is part of the future.

It's difficult to find scenarios that would force Jerry Jones to make a coaching change at the end of the 2011 season. However, one NFL writer says Garrett is a dark horse candidate for being on the hot seat.

“I know he just got hired and did very well after the mid-season firing of Wade Phillips,” Yahoo.com’s Michael Silver said Monday. “I just wonder whether Jerry Jones’ heart was really in this hire. He reacted to the obvious bump in the Cowboys’ fortunes, but you can make the case that Jason Garrett was very much a part of the prior regime, which tanked.”

Silver recommended a possible successor to Garrett, but that head coach signed a contract extension Monday that will keep him in New Orleans through the 2015 season.

“If the Cowboys have another disappointing season,” Silver said, “with all those big names out there, and the possibility of maybe Sean Payton, if there’s a way to get him free, that would be a perfect match for both of those guys. So, watch out.”

Without a doubt this is 100% true ...

Garrett is a stopgap guy ....JJ's heart isn't in this ... He wanted Fischer or Sean Peyton - Peyton bought a home in Dallas and moved his family there - JJ spent no money on UFA either - he's cutting stiffs left n right and held off on Ratliff ....

The wheels are in motion folks....

How is someone who you hired before the previous head coach a stop-gap guy? I would love for you to explain that one to me.

Sean just signed an extension through 2015. There is 0% chance Garrett is on the hot seat at all this season. Especially with all the youth that's been injected into key positions.

Jerry is comfortable with JG, "He's in the family portrait".

Win or lose Garrett will be here for the next 4 seasons, at least.

Turd writer alert. Clearly has the same kind of non talent a guy like Florio would admire

If Jerry felt that way there's no way in fucking hell Jason Garrett calls the shots for the roster.

He believes in JG, no doubt in my mind.

IF Garrett bombs out and we're picking in the top 3... He's not our guy. He needs replaced.

Average life span of a head coach under Jerry is just over 3 years. If turds like Switzer, Campo, Phillips can survive at least 3 years he ain't pulling the plug on the golden child after one year regardless if this year is a redux of 2010' or worse. It's going to take more than one year to fix what Phillips was able to dissolve in four.
