Zone insider broke the news that Upshaw was off Dallas' board and guaranteed Upshaw wouldn't be the pick..

This damn near guarantees this guy will be our 1st rd pick

So much for Upshaw being off our board, he's in Dallas for an official visit

lol yup.

Got word today the Cowboys interest in Upshaw has really soured.

Word is his approach to the draft process seems to have favored teams running a 4-3 looking for a DE and Upshaw himself was given the advice to gain some weight after struggling in several drills.

Given that he showed up at his pro day at 279 pounds it seems he has taken that advice and ran with it.

One day ago:

The Dallas Cowboys might be open to selecting linebacker Courtney Upshaw with the No. 14 overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, executive vice president Stephen Jones said.

In an interview posted Saturday by the Dallas Morning News, Jones was asked about the three Alabama products -- including Upshaw, cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick and safety Mark Barron -- who could be on the board when the Cowboys take their turn in the draft.

After singing the praises of Kirkpatrick and Barron, Jones said Upshaw will merit the team's attention.

"He's a guy we're really going to have to take a long, hard look at over the next couple of weeks to see is he a (strong-side) linebacker for us, what is his more natural position or is he more of a defensive end," Jones said.

Jones, who met with all three players, spoke highly of Alabama's program. He said "you can tell (Kirkpatrick, Barron and Upshaw have) been coached up well. They said (Alabama coach) Nick (Saban) gets involved individually in coaching them and has high expectations for them."

So because the Zone was wrong, that guarantees that Upshaw will be the pick? Brilliant.

So what if the Zone does an about-face and proclaims that Upshaw will be the pick... does that mean that Upshaw will NOT be the pick?:Dunce

MacMahon: Upshaw Ready To Call Cowboys Stadium Home

Upshaw Ready To Call Cowboys Stadium Home

April, 16, 2012

By Tim MacMahon

Like most people on the first visit to Cowboys Stadium, Alabama outside linebacker Courtney Upshaw couldn’t help but be in a little awe of Jerry Jones’ $1.2 billion football palace.

Upshaw made sure to snap a few pictures of JerryWorld, but he was there on a business trip as part of his pre-draft visit with the Cowboys. And Upshaw would be thrilled to call the place home if the Cowboys use the 14th overall pick on him.

“I would definitely love to play in it,” Upshaw said during an interview with Galloway and Company’s Ian Fitzsimmons that will air on ESPN Dallas 103.3 FM this evening. “Just go out and dominate and make a name for myself. Everybody, once they step in that stadium, would know that Courtney Upshaw is coming to play.”

Upshaw potentially is a much less expensive replacement for Anthony Spencer, who is due to make $8.8 million this season and wants a lucrative long-term deal despite producing so-so results since the Cowboys used a 2007 first-round pick on him. Upshaw mentioned that defensive coordinator Rob Ryan – “one of the coolest coaches I met throughout my whole football career” – talked to him about the responsibilities of playing opposite DeMarcus Ware, such as frequently dropping into coverage on first and second downs.

“I feel I can definitely do that,” Upshaw said. “I did it here at Alabama – didn’t drop a lot in game situations, but did a lot of dropping in practice. Coach [Nick] Saban wanted me to rush the passer. I was one of the better pass rushers on the team, so he wanted me to get after the quarterback, and that’s what I did.

“I’m able to do whatever is asked.”

He must be getting bad info at the truck depot.

But I will say, no way is Upshaw our pick. Not unless we trade down. I just don't see it happening.

I don't think their (scouts passing through South Carolina) bathroom breaks before they hit the road again, give him enough time to rifle through their bags.
