It ain't the distance Boys. That's not gonna make much change and not going to affect coaching decisions much when it comes to points after touchdown. If you really want to make the kicking game interesting, here's how.

Move the uprights closer together by about two feet, and put a BAR across the top of them, so we have a rectangle the ball must successfully travel through, for any kicking attempt to be good. And put the spot of the ball for PAT attempts back where it's supposed to be.

This means if they overkick it and the ball sails over the top bar, no good. They gotta line drive it more. They gotta make it go thru the rectangle.

More kicks will be blocked, and less field goals will be tried, bet'cha. Making it more exciting, or it doesn't happen as much. Win-Win.

Shit or get off the pot. Knock off this half assed mealy mouthed shit of pushing the kicker back for PATs, and just make all kicks harder.

And while you're at it, make the drop kick worth trying. Make the son of a bitch worth six points if it is kicked from outside the 20 yard line. Ball goes over on downs right there if it is missed. It is returnable if it is caught, blocked, or otherwise winds up in the field of play after being kicked.

Put the foot back in football.

Making PATs more difficult elevates the importance of kickers. Anything that makes full-time kicking specialists more important is a bad idea, IMO.

One thought I've had through the years is this ... What if the rules were set up so that kickers and punters could not be full-time specialists?

Instead, the rule might be that in order for a player to be eligible to punt or kick a ball, the player who punts or kicks the ball must have participated in the immediately preceding play. So if Romo and the offense scores a TD, the coach must select his kicker from among the 11 players who were on the field when the TD was scored.

If Carr scores on a Pick 6, then one of the 11 Cowboys defenders who were on the field when Carr scored would be the PAT kicker.

The team could choose to go for 2 points instead of a 1 point PAT. In that case, the team could have their standard offense attempt the 2 point play.

Except for the opening kickoff and second half kickoff, by rule, kickoffs would be handled by a player who had been on the field during the immediately previous play.

I think a change like that would be pretty interesting.

I like this as well. Added to everything I added.

Now we're getting into what Obama would call, "Comprehensive kicking game reform."

I don't think the PAT was broken in the first place. Who cares if it's a formality, a TD should be worth more than two FGs anyway.

And like Zero said, don't think we want to be making kickers even more influential than they already are.

Well, me either. I'm saying if they think it is "broken" here's the actual fix. Not the stupid shit they're trying.
They're definitely throwing a bunch of crap against the wall. It's about like Nascar now with new rules every single year. But the game didn't become the monster it did because it needed a bunch of stuff changed.

Goodell is the definition of a guy who was born of third base and thinks he hit a triple.
