Washington quarterback Donovan McNabb is scheduled to be held out of Friday night's exhibition against the New York Jets because of a sprained ankle and is unlikely to return for the finla pre-season game. Because of that, the Redskins could simplify their playbook for the season opener against the Dallas Cowboys, offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan said.
Kyle Shanahan, son of head coach Mike Shanahan, told reporterse the Redskins have not started game-planning for the Cowboys. Kyle Shanahan said if McNabb does not fully grasp the offense by the week leading up to the Dallas game or if other offensive problems persist, the Redskins could cut down the playbook and focus on doing a few plays well.
McNabb has had nine possessions in exhibition play and produced points only twice, on a field goal and a touchdown.
