LB Dan Connor to visit the Cowboys -- UPDATE POST 19 - Connor a Cowboy

IRVING, Texas -- The Cowboys drafted Bruce Carter in the second round of last year’s draft despite a serious knee injury, knowing that the payoff on him would come in the future.

While the Cowboys are pleased with Carter’s development, they scheduled a visit with Carolina Panthers free agent linebacker Dan Connor, according to a source.

Connor was credited with 87 tackles last year by the Panthers' coaches in 15 games (11 starts). He also had a forced fumble. He has 19 starts in his career and missed most of his rookie season in 2008 with a knee injury after being selected by Carolina in the third round.

If he joins the Cowboys, he could pair up next to fellow Penn State alum Sean Lee.

The Cowboys have had some discussions about free agent Keith Brooking returning, as well.

Cowboys still visiting with Carolina free agent LB Dan Connor

The Cowboys visited with Carolina free agent linebacker Dan Connor on Wednesday and those talks will continue today, coach Jason Garrett said.

"We're excited to have Dan Connor in, a Penn State guy, drafted by Carolina. He right kind of guy, a very productive player for them, a very productive player in college," Garrett said. "We've had a good visit with him so far and we'll get the chance to visit with him more today and just see where we are and where he is and continue along with this process."

In regard to the inside linebacker position, Garrett said the Cowboys "feel like" 2011 draft pick Bruce Carter "has a great future."

"But having said that," Garrett continued, "we need more players in there."

Veterans Bradie James and Keith Brooking are unrestricted free agents in their 30s and likely won't return. Obviously Sean Lee isn't going anywhere after his breakout 2011 season.

Lee and Connor are former teammates at Penn State.

That reminds me, theebs. One time, when I was 12, I was a star witness for the state after witnessing a suicide.
