Dallas Cowboys linebackers coach Reggie Herring told Houston's FOX 26 television station today that he could remain with the club rather than re-join Wade Phillips on the Texans' staff.
"Just here to feel things out and see what direction we are going to go,'' Herring said before going to a job interview with Texans' head coach Gary Kubiak. "The options I have are to stay in Dallas or come to Houston. I'm very comfortable with both.''
Herring served as linebackers coach with the Texans in the club's first two seasons": 2002-03. He spent the last three seasons with the Cowboys. Wade Phillips was head coach for 40 games in that span. The Texans hired him as defensive coordinator this month.
"I don't think there's any doubt the reason I'm here is because coach Phillips and I worked together," Herring told the station before heading to a job interview with the Texans. ``I feel comfortable working with him. I believe in him. I believe in his system. I know his system. It makes for a smooth transition."
"On the other hand there's still in Dallas, I got to do my job and get some answers. There's a lot of great people in Dallas as well.''
