For those who don't want to watch the video, the question was "Besides quarterbacks, who do you think is the most overrated prospect that'll still be taken in the first round?"

Kipers response:

"I'm gonna go with Tyron Smith, Offensive Tackle, USC. For this reason, I have him up there at that #10, 9 area but if you're picking 10 or 9, you'll get somebody normally in your top 5 or 6. I think if you look at Smith, he's got a lot of potential. He could be your right tackle, you're left tackle. You'd like to see him play that left tackle spot and maintain his weight at 305, 310 as well.

He's got enormous potential, but if you're picking 9, get somebody in your top 5 or 6. If your Dallas, move back. I think Smith would be more of a pick that would make sense more in the middle of the first round. Then if you're picking 14, and you get a guy like Smith you feel really good about it.

A lot of these offensive tackles are getting pushed up a little bit because they have to go. Everybody is looking for the left tackle in the NFL, but in a normal year, he would be a middle of the first guy. They're getting pushed up, Smith, even Anthony Costanzo from Boston College, they're getting pushed up because you got to have these guys."

That is virtually verbatim.

If you're happy with a guy at 14, would you really not be happy with him at 9?

In three years, would it really matter?

Then Mel should have put him on his overrated list in his draft report. What the F am I paying him for?

He's so damn cute though.

I read what he said.

What makes it really dumb?

Come on man, I know you are smarter than this.

If he is claiming Tyron Smith is now overrated and shouldnt be picked at 9 or 10 because at 9 or 10 you "should be able to get somebody in your top 5 or 6" what does it say about the teams ahead of you that passed on guys rated in the top 5 or 6? Is every prospect now overrated?

It was a moronic comment and doesnt make any sort of sense.

Then there's the fact that he is saying he has the guy rated in his top 10, but he's overrated and shouldnt be drafted until the middle of the first round. These are his ratings, so he should put the guy where he believes is really rated.

The guy has diarrhea of the mouth most of the time.

No. It was a moron comprehension, is what you mean.

Hey, Einstein. There is no set top 5 or 6. That list will change from team to team. What Mel is saying is if you get the 9th player on your board at 9, you really didn't hit a home run with the selection. And he's right.

Then there's the fact that he is saying he has the guy rated in his top 10, but he's overrated and shouldnt be drafted until the middle of the first round. These are his ratings, so he should put the guy where he believes is really rated.

He doesn't have him in his top 10. Again....things sound stupid when a simpleton is reciting it.

He said he has him coming off the board at that spot. And if/when he does, he'll be overrated in his opinion.

He's got a legit case. The guy doesn't have a career at LT to show teams. He's never played at his current weight. That's some pretty significant issues with the top LT prospect in the draft. A guy many believe will be taken in the top 10.

I mean, I happen to disagree with Mel. But to say his stance is dumb, and when it's coming from the biggest waste of board space in the history of the internet, well I just had to say something.

FWIW, Mel has us taking Amukamara at 9. He thinks no OT is worth a top ten pick in this draft. Mid teens at least.

Sure 32 teams will likely put up 32 different boards. But the players in the top 5 or so are fairly easy to predict and rate. Hell most years I can get alot of the top-10 right unless trades are made.
There's usually a concensus on who those players are.

If I can do it I'm sure highly paid people employed by these teams can do it too.

So if Kiper reasonably expects someone from a teams top 5 or 6 to be available at 9 or 10, it means some teams ahead of them have most likely reached badly for someone else.

I think you are all missing the point here. Every year there is a consensus from teams that about 6 or 7 players rate as top 10 talents. I know that was the case last year. So I'd be surprised this year if the consensus was that there are more than 4 or 5 top 10 type talents. I mean, when Cam Newton and Marcell Dareus are in line to be the 1st overall pick, that just hurts the 1st round eligible pool.

Basically Mel doesn't view Tyron Smith as a top 10 talent even though that's where he's slated to go.

I don't agree at all.

Just take the QB situation. Bet ya all the QB needy teams have Newton and Gabbert at the top of their board. The teams set at the position don't. That drastically changes your top 5.

Teams don't stack value boards like you see on the websites. Their boards are much more refined and tailored to fits in their system.

The Cowboys had a top 15 grade on Sean Lee last year. I'd bet at least half the league didn't have him in their top 30.
