After working with the first-team offense, Jon Kitna had trouble finding his locker on Wednesday. He had to part a sea of reporters to reach the spot.

Although it's been a while since he was the center of attention, the 38-year-old said he's comfortable in his new role as starting quarterback. He's been preparing himself for this day since he was traded to Dallas from Detroit in February 2009.

``I guess you never say anticipate but you never say you're never going to play,'' Kitna said. ``That's tthe way I've tried to approach it since I've been here: This could be the week, this could be the play.

``Fortunately for us, it didn't happen before this point but it's here. I would say being excited about it is the wrong term to use but the challenge is ahead of us and the job I have to do.''

Kitna completed 16 of 33 passes for 187 yards and two touchdowns in place of the injured Tony Romo. He is banking on his 14 years of experience and familiarity with this style of offense. He spent four years with Seattle , five seasons in Cincinnati and three years in Detroit.

``It's a challenge to play quarterback and to play well in this league,'' he said. ``That's the challenge. I'm not worried about my teammates. I've been here long enough for them to understand what I'm about and how I approach my craft and how I approach preparing for football games. Now I have the reps on the field to help prepare.

``It's no different than any other time. I've been in this system for 13 out of my 15 years, a system similar to this. II'm pretty comfortable with what we do but certainly there are a few things that Tony likes that I haven't had a lot of work with throughout my career. For the most part I'd say 80 percent of the playbook is something that I'm very familiar with and comfortable with.''

That's what bothers me about Kitna, he has no mobility he's a pocket passer.

Can't do that with our offensive line.
