In what should be no surprise to anyone who was at Bryant-Denny Stadium on Saturday, Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel was named the SEC's offensive player of the week for his big performance in the Aggies' 29-24 upset of No. 1 Alabama.

Manziel accounted for 345 total yards in the victory, completing 24 of 31 passes for 253 yards and two touchdowns and rushing for 92 yards on 18 carries. Already the SEC's leading rusher, Manziel became the second freshman in NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision history to rush for 1,000 yards or more and pass for 2,000 or more in a single season, joining former Missouri star Brad Smith, who did it in 2002.

Manziel, who has thrown for 2,780 yards and 18 touchdowns and rushed for 1,014 and 15 scores this year, was also named the SEC's freshman of the week, an honor he's earned several times this season.

South Carolina safety D.J. Swearinger and LSU safety Craig Loston shared the conference's defensive player of the week honor. Swearinger made a career-high 13 tackles and had one interception in a 38-20 win over Arkansas, returning the interception 69 yards for a touchdown. Loston had six tackles and returned an interception 100 yards for a score in a 37-17 victory over Mississippi State.

Missouri kicker Andrew Baggett and Florida defensive back Loucheiz Purifoy both made game-wining plays to be named co-special teams players of the week. Baggett's 35-yard field goal in the fourth overtime gave the Tigers a 51-44 win over Tennessee, while Purifoy blocked a punt with two seconds remaining against Louisiana-Lafayette with Jelani Jenkins returning it 36 yards for the game-winning score in a 27-20 victory.

Georgia's David Andrews was named the SEC's offensive lineman of the week, grading 88 percent with six "dominator" blocks and three knockdowns in the Bulldogs' 38-0 win over Auburn. Vanderbilt's Walker May, a Birmingham native and former Briarwood Christian standout, earned defensive player of the week honors with six tackles, including three for losses and one sack, in a 27-26 victory over Ole Miss.

Other players honored for outstanding performances this week:

LB C.J. MOSLEY (Alabama) -- Had game-high 14 tackles (9 solos) and a quarterback sack against Texas A&M.

Draft eligible as a redshirt sophomore in 2014. Probably won't come out until 2015 or 2016 since he does not have NFL prototypical size.

Thoughts?

I hate the name "Johnny." So, no.

Seriously, unless you're the lead in some corny 1950's movie, why would you ever go by "Johnny?"

Which makes me think...if Luck keeps it up is Indy the best QB team of all time? Johnny U, Peyton (who is arguably the GOAT) and Luck. Plus Harbaugh. ;)

Who even comes close? Green Bay has three SB winners so maybe they are 1 for now. Dallas has a pair and a good current QB. San Fran has a collection.

He plays just like Romo. So we wouldn't have to change our best play, "Dodge five rushers, run around seven seconds, hit a receiver 20 yards downfield on three, break"

Manziel is a bum. I hate his game. No fuckin way that dipship succeeds in the nfl.

Crouch 2.0

I halfway agree. I am not convinced that he'll have success in the NFL.

But I enjoy the college game. And I like watching this kid play. He's a darn good college QB.

I can't argue that. Heck of a college QB.

One of my main problems its not being able to separate the college game from the pro game. While I can decipher which players are better suited for college than the nfl. I have issues liking their game bc of it. I guess it's bc I'm a pro fan first.

It's hard to determine if a college QB will make it in the NFL. Unless, your name is Luck, Aikman or Marino. Just giving a few examples. Having said this no one knows for sure if Johnny would suceed or not. Shit, no one thought Tom Brady was going to be anything until it happened.

No. We know. We knew Russell had no shot. He proved it.

Manziel won't be as lucky..he won't get paid..and still won't make it

6 foot 1 is the height that college teams always list their short QB's so the possibility of him being 5'11"ish is there.
