On Jan. 3 Wes Welker tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. On Sunday he caught eight passes for 64 yards and two touchdowns in a remarkable comeback.

John Phillips is in the early parts of his rehab from tearing his ACL in the Hall of Fame Game against Cincinnati after undergoing surgery late last month.

"I definitely know you can come back from this," Phillips said, "but I don't have to push it to come back that quick. I've got eight months to go before I need to be good to go."

Phillips made a four-month recovery from an ACL surgery while in high school but that was to play baseball.

"I wasn't trying to beat out a lot of infield single," Phillips said.

What does a third string TE recovering from an ACL have to do with a pro bowl receiver on another team who just recovered from a torn ACL?

It's a fairly common injury.

Oh . . . they're both white. I get it.
