Jerry Jones' slip tips hand on head coach:******

January, 2, 2011 Jan 27:40PM CTEmail Print Comments1 By Tim MacMahon

PHILADELPHIA –- Jerry Jones insisted that he hasn’t made any decisions about the Cowboys' head coaching vacancy. He stated that he hadn't interviewed anyone yet, so just giving the full-time job to Jason Garrett would be a violation of the NFL’s Rooney Rule.

"I am really interested in following the spirit of our NFL rules," Jones said after the Cowboys completed their season with a comeback win over the Eagles who weren't valuable enough to rest for the playoffs, "and that’s what this is all about."

Of course, all signs point to Garrett getting the job. And it should happen quickly, as Jones said he wants to have his coaching search wrapped up within a week so the Cowboys can start serious discussions about how to renovate the roster.

There could also be several changes on the coaching staff. When asked whether his head coach would have power to hire the assistants, Jones slipped and tipped his hand.

"The answer is, when you say decision power, that is certainly something that Jason needs to have input in,”" said Jones, who elaborated by adding that Garrett had influence over several offensive assistants already on staff.

Jason is going to regret taking this job in 3 years. It may be his first and only shot at it.

Right in that sentence is where he slipped up.
