Jerry Jones pleased with Dez Bryant

GRAPEVINE, Texas -- With several Dallas Cowboys conducting private workouts together in the area, there is some concern about wide receiver Dez Bryant's ability to do so.
Bryant is coming off a fractured ankle that cost him the last four weeks of the 2010 season. With the lockout in place, Bryant, last year's first-round pick, has been unable to see the team doctors to evaluate his progress from injury.
Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said a few weeks ago the team talks to a third-party regarding how players are recovering from injury. Garrett said all the players coming off injuries last season -- including John Phillips, Kevin Ogletree, Tony Romo, Akwasi Owusu-Ansah, Sean Lissemore and Bryant -- are progressing.
Jerry Jones, the Cowboys' owner/general manager, is pleased the players are working out together and even more so for Bryant.
"Dez is one who, if you get him near a football, you have to slow him down, not get him encouraged," Jones said. "So if he does that in the right form, he gets to work with our quarterback, he gets to do the right things, the impact of not having our coaches involved before the season."
When players work out there is a chance injuries could occur, and if a player is coming off an injury that player could re-injure himself. But Jones understands his players will take care of themselves.
In fact, Romo said after the second day of workouts, two weeks ago, the players had to slow Bryant down because he was coming off an injury. Bryant plays basketball at an area fitness center and participated in former Cowboy Tony Hill's charity event. If the NFL offseason had been normal, it appears Bryant might be limited in some fashion during minicamps and OTAs.
"The players are very sophisticated and should be when it comes to basics," Jones said. "Not only limiting themselves of their condition or limiting themselves of running [and] stretching and all of those kinds of things, I have a lot of confidence they will be responsible in how they approach these workouts."
