The Cowboys' last tangible goal this season has been erased. With no shot at the playoffs, Dallas is left with some choices that are far from ideal and even a bit abstract. In the final three weeks, should it work to establish a habit of winning by using its best players and competing as if there were something at stake? Or should it use the remaining games to evaluate the players who could be the future of the franchise?

Well, it appears that owner and general manager Jerry Jones is more in favor of the first option mentioned.

"We want to go win those games," Jones said Sunday after the Cowboys lost to the Eagles 30-27 . "We want to give us, any way we can, the best chance to win. It's important that we feel good about what we're doing.

"It's important to me that our fans can see that there is something potentially to feel good about. That's very important to me. With what we've got ahead of us next year, in the offseason, we'll try to make every score and every down we can. So, it's all out for me."

On the surface, this approach makes sense, but not because of the reasons Jones outlined. In reality, Jones needs a greater sample size of games to determine if Jason Garrett should remain the team's coach. Assessing Garrett's worth is impossible if he is not playing with a full deck of cards. That's probably why Jones is adamant about finishing the season as if the team were in contention. He needs to gather as much evidence as he can to establish whether Garrett is truly the right man for the job.

If Bill Cowher were the coach, Jerry wouldn't be making this decision.

Not really sure there's much to argue about here. Garrett wants to win the game. Its important for him to make positive strides and instill his philosophy, and have guys buy into what he's doing. Let him bench guys he feels need to get benched, but I dont see any reason to start playing guys 40-53 just for the sake of seeing them today.

And he may have seen enough of some of the backups to have already decided they arnt ready or wont be much help.

The head coach has a gag order and it's not even combine time.

I hope it's just an agreement that Jerry can still look like he's in charge, when it's the opposite. PLEASE!!

Hell no X's 2. Why would anyone miss that quitter?

If Jerry really wants to make the fans happy and have something to look forward too, he would step down as GM. Or, atleast take a step back and let the scouts and coaches do their jobs. AND FIX THE FRIGGIN O-LINE.

Absolutely.

The guy who gave life back to this franchise. Nobody could have done a better job tied to that personnel idiot/control freak Jerry Jones.

He brought us from 5-11 to 9-7 . . .

And all it took was four years!

Talk about a monumental turn-around.
