In the past owner and general manager Jerry Jones has acknowledged there is no head-coach-in-waiting clause in Jason Garrett's contract, but speaking on The Fan this morning Jones indicated there could be a way to work around the Rooney Rule if he wanted to remove the interim tag from Garrett's title.

"There are some extenuating circumstances involved here and I would have the opportunity on my decision, how we'll make it, I'll have the present that to the league," Jones said. "So we'll see how that goes but I can't give you any type of answer to that because I'm not sure I'm through working the process."

The Rooney Rule is clear that a team must interview a minority candidate even if it wants to name the interim coach to the full-time position unless that coach has a certain clause in his deal. In 2003, Jones interviewed Dennis Green by telephone, which the league saw as compliance with the rule, after a deal with Bill Parcells was all but in place.

I'm for Garrett, but I want to see how the rest of the season shapes up.

JG has already proven he can prepare the team, now I want to see if he can get these guys to stick with it.

For instance, the first time we start struggling and make mental errors, or we continue to lose I want to see if there is any difference in accountability.

Yeah, JG has shown it in this game against the Giants but I want to see it the rest of the way. There's no reason why we can't put on a nice winning streak. In Beating the Giants it's already proven we can beat good teams as bad as our record is.

Now, Detroit is a better team with Stafford at quarterback but it doesn't necissarily mean we beat them. We haven't won a game at home yet. Let's put that to rest in these next two games.

If we can beat Detroit and New Orleans then JG should be given the job. On the miricale side of things it would be awesome to see us win the rest of our games, but that is far fetched. I still see us needing offensive line help and at safety but if he can get these guys to pllay just think what he can do with new draft picks or newly signed free agents.

Put a nice winning streak together and we have our coach, but if we continue to do the things we have before the Giants game then I want someone else brought in. We weren't perfect against the Giants, but I think JG put together a hell of a game plan to beat the Giants on the road. And the players bought into it.

I know that was off the minority topic a bit, but I just wanted to put my two sense in about JG.

Okay, now interview Ray Sherman Jerry so you can take the interim tag off JG.
