IRVING, Texas – Jerry Jones declared on his radio show Friday that the Cowboys will be the best they’ve been in “well over two years” on Sunday because of their health.

That’s a pretty bold claim, considering that the Cowboys won the NFC East and a playoff game a couple of seasons ago.

Jones is excited to see Miles Austin and Dez Bryant healthy together after recovering from a hamstring strain and bruised thigh, respectively. He’s also eager to see the complete cornerbacks corps for the first time all season with Orlando Scandrick returning from a high ankle sprain.

"This is the best team we've put on the field in well over two years and I say that because of the health aspect of it," Jones said on KRLD-FM. "I think we're in the best chance to compete, bringing the best team to the game in quite a long time."

Scandrick might not be a starter – coach Jason Garrett has been coy about the matter – but Jones believes the slot corner’s return ranks right up there with the receivers’ health in terms of impact.

“Scandrick is an important part of this equation,” Jones said. “He’ll make as big an impact to be coming off injury as any one of our players, including Miles, really including an improved Dez [Bryant]. He’ll make as big an impact, Scandrick will, as any player we’ve got.”

The Cowboys better be at their best. The Patriots haven’t lost at Gillette Stadium in Tom Brady’s last 30 regular-season home starts.

Jones considers the quality of competition an opportunity for the Cowboys. He compared the chance the Cowboys have this weekend to their 2009 win in New Orleans, which served as a springboard to the playoffs.

"Big wins away can really provide the underpinning for a season," Jones said. "[Two] years ago we went down to New Orleans and beat an undefeated New Orleans team and it really gave us a kickstart for the rest of the season. Those big road wins can be inspirational and hopefully we can have that with this game."

He's ever the optomist.

Nothing he says is worth listening to, though. The team could die in a plane crash, and he'd put a positive spin on it.

I'm surprised people still listen to him. I remember him saying "This is the most talented team we've ever had!" right before the 1997 season when we went 6-10. He's full of bullshit.

I kinda agree with him. We've never had the likes of Dez and Miles at WR. Still have Witten. Our RBs have always been somewhat average, if barely above. The Oline has never been very good at run-blocking in a long time. We've never had the LB corp that we do now, esp now that we finally have an ILB with speed. This is probably our best group of safeties in a while, which isn't saying much because they've been horrible since about '04, but still. We have our strongest group of corners in a few years (provided all 3 of our top corners can play together). And finally there is Romo, who is in his prime (I'm holding back my criticisms of Romo so as not to further upset you pussies).

What he's saying isn't that far-fetched once you think about it.

And we have our strongest personality at head coach since Bill Parcells and our best DC since Dave Wannstedt had the pleasure of coaching a very talented and speedy group back in '93.

We don't have much of a running game and that kills us.

To paraphrase Louie CK...I'd suck a bunch of bloody dicks just so i could fuck Jerry in the ass and give him AIDS.

Meh, it's a passing league.

Right, but you still have to have a balanced attack if you want to go far in the playoffs.

Smash mouth football and great defenses win you championships.

Just think if we had a running game.

Tony might not of thrown those pics in those games and we're 4-0.

Just something to think about.

I think had the team better evaluated the left guard and center position we would have a better running game. Felix is much more physical and more importanly, willing to be physical, than he has been in years past. I'd like a power-type back to share carries with him but I still think we'd have a better running game right now if we weren't so weak in the interior o-line.

Run blocking has been a problem at times, especially in the interior line. You nailed it.
