Jerry Jones says Cowboys going slow with Jenkins, Murray, but Newman ahead of schedule
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said the Cowboys want to continue to rest cornerback Mike Jenkins while he recovers from a shoulder stinger and that they will be careful not to rush running back DeMarco Murray, who has a hamstring injury.
“I’m ultimately not concerned there, but it does need rest,” Jones said of Jenkins’ injury, which he suffered while the Cowboys were in San Antonio for training camp.
Of Murray, Jones said: “Murray is a guy we are really trying to be sensitive to how quick we can get him out there. We know he will be very competitive from the get-go. He’s making some real improvement. We will work him harder this week. Don’t know if we will see him against San Diego. But right now the injury situation is one, as we sit here right now, I’m reluctant to say anything because I don’t want to jinx us. But we are doing pretty good there.”
Jones also said cornerback Terence Newman is on or ahead of schedule to return from a groin injury. The Cowboys hope he can make it back in time for the season opener.
