Washington Redskins head coach Jay Gruden is lobbying the front office to re-sign quarterback Kirk Cousins according to John Keim of ESPN.com.

"Obviously, Kirk’s a guy we’d like to keep around, no doubt," Gruden said. "But that’ll be up to [GM Scot McCloughan] and Kirk’s agent and Kirk." The Washington Post reports there is "no evidence" that any substantial contract talks are currently taking place but, with Robert Griffin III virtually certain to be gone this offseason, signing Cousins to a new deal needs to be a priority. A contract structured similarly to Nick Foles' deal with the Rams which allows Washington to continue evaluating Cousins at a reduced rate for the next couple seasons and allows Cousins to get out of the deal if he exceeds expectations could work for both sides.

In the last three games, Cousins has a combined passer rating of 117.1.

--------

Redskins find their franchise QB or is/was his last three games just a fluke?

Two of those games were against the Bucs and Saints. So no, they were NOT flukes. But you have to put it in perspective.

Sams Bucs defense we couldn't score more than two FGs on. :brick

Indeed. But that doesn't make the Bucs any good or Cousins in that regards; that just reveals how lousy WE are.The Redskins seem to not be able to win on the road. Maybe they'll get their first in a few weeks against us.
