Of the 555 receptions Jason Witten has had in his career, 337 have come from Tony Romo. So have 3,947 of the yards and 16 of the touchdowns.

While their connection this season had not been as smooth as it had been in the past, he and Romo know each other so well that a wink here or nod there and they could adjust on the fly. Now Witten and Jon Kitna have to develop that chemistry.

In Monday's loss to the New York Giants, Kitna targeted Witten 11 times and they combined for seven catches for 82 yards.

"He's been great," Witten said. "I give him credit because even when he was the backup he's always been active, talking, 'Hey, we see this in the QB room,'" Witten said. "It's the same approach [now] but obviously in more detail with it. For me personally, just trying to go over the little things that kind of came like the back of our hand with Tony and I. We just want to be on top of it."

When Romo went down with the fractured pinkie finger in 2008, Witten was limited to seven catches for 52 yards with Brad Johnson and did not have a catch vs. the Giants in large part because of a busted rib.
