Continuing the downward trend of the 2009 draft class, Jason Williams, the Cowboys' top pick that year, has been released.

Williams was a third round pick, No. 69 overall, could not translate his athletic ability to the field after making the move as a stand-up interior pass rusher from Western Illinois to inside linebacker in the 3-4. Williams made three defensive tackles in little playing time and six special teams' stops this season but he had been inactive the last two weeks.

It could be a sign the Cowboys will call up Bryan McCann from the practice squad to better cover themselves if Terence Newman's rib cartilage/muscle strain injury does not improve this week.

The Cowboys have now cut the top two picks of that draft class in the last month. Tackle Robert Brewster, a third rounder as well, was cut and is now on the practice squad. Earlier they cut safety Mike Hamlin, a fifth-round pick, who is now on Jacksonville's practice squad. Of the 12 picks from that class, only Stephen McGee, Victor Butler, Brandon Williams and David Buehler are on the active roster.

If you guys make fun of that 2009 draft, David Beuler will drive to your home and kick field goal just wide to the right of your house.

.

Man, I am starting to hate this shit. How about ACTUALLY drafting a player for a position on the team that PLAYED there in College???? Geeze, enough of these damn "projects".

I hope Williams lands some where, plays in his NATURAL position and comes back and stomps the shit outta the Cowboys offense. It will serve that bonehead Jones and his sorry ass scouting staff right.

We need to stop HAVING IDIOTS drafting .

Fixed that for ya!

One thing worth noting . . . (although I'm sure we all know it), this is a telling sign that Wade is on the outs.

Williams was a Wade pick, and many felt Wade was protecting this player for a while.

Thank you. Personally, I think that if we go to a 4-3, there might be a place for Williams.

What worries me is how many of the players can actually tie their own shoes, or do they use velcro?

They use velcro when they aren't playing. The trainers tie their shoes when they are.

This sucks, but was necessary. I'm glad they finally decided to suck up their pride on this.

He's an idiot.

You can work with players who may be a little small or need some work in the weight room. Maybe they're behind in fundamentals going to a small school. But you can't have stupid players on your roster.

It's like my one small sliver of hope for Sean Lee. He's at least intelligent. You can tell that within 5 seconds of hearing the man speak.

Plus, ya know.....by looking at him. :awkward

Yeah, that drafting dumb players thing. It kinda, uh, needs to stop.

Carolina claimed him today.

I still think he may end up being a decent player somewhere. I would have preferred we held onto him at least another season. He was one fot he few LB's we have who probably has some scheme flexibility. He might be an ideal OLB in the 4-3 one day.

I hope he knows how to get on and off the plane by himself.

I was thinking the exact same thing. People up here claling him stupid because he couldn't catch on, but it's one thing to be a DE in college and then transition to OLB in the 3-4, but to expect one to make that exact transition to a 3-4 ILB...?

I think very much he could thrive as a 4-3 OLB.

I think he had plenty of time to learn and so did the organization.
