Jason Garrett Wants Cowboys To Get Physical

One of the biggest changes in the Jason Garrett era comes during the practice week. Players must practice in pads on Wednesdays, something they were not used to under former head coach Wade Phillips. Garrett believes that you can be successful without practicing in pads, but he wants his players to have a physical mindset.

“I just think football is a physical sport,” Garrett said. “You can never lose that. You have to be smart going forward over the course of a season, but Wednesday is the day when you’re putting the base stuff in. A lot of it is focused on the running game and the play-action passing game, and you need to be physical in those areas.

“Over the course of time, if you’re not practicing that way, I think maybe you lose some of that physical-ness. Now there are a lot of other coaching philosophies that have been incredibly successful doing it a different way. This is just something that we believe in.”

Bravo, Jason Garrett. Bravo. The offensive line and running game improved in Garrett’s first game as head coach, while the defense saw their tackling improve. Perhaps it was the more physical approach to practice. Whatever it was, I hope Garrett and the ‘Boys keep it up.

You shouldn't ask your team to do something on Sunday that they haven't been prepared for during the week.

I Fing love Garrett.

You know he's picking Jimmy Johnson's brain.

I've never been more confident about a head coach for the Dallas Cowboys.
