By Calvin Watkins

Cowboys coach Jason Garrett met with some coaches in the last few days to talk about their status with the organization. Several coaches, Dave Campo, Brett Maxie, Skip Peete, Hudson Houck, Wes Phillips and Keith O'Quinn, entered the last year of their contracts.

It isn't known if these coaches were retained by Garrett, but Campo, the secondary coach offered a "no comment" when asked about his status with the team.

The Cowboys tried to replace Campo last season with Ray Horton, who was the secondary coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers. But Horton became the defensive coordinator of the Arizona Cardinals.

Houck is the highest paid offensive line coach in the NFL, at $1 million a season, and it appears he along with Maxie, the safeties coach will return.

Phillips has a close relationship with Garrett, but he might leave to join his father, Wade Phillips in Houston. The Cowboys seemed to be pleased with Peete, the running backs coach, who worked with rookie DeMarco Murray, who rushed for a team-high 897 yards.

O'Quinn, the offensive quality control/wide receivers coach, who is well-respected, could also return.

If we continue to surround ourselves with shitty to mediocre coaches, we're going to continue to suck donkey balls for another 15 years.

Garrett, much like Jones, appears to not want competent assistants around him who might call him on his shit.

I might be done with this team if that's the case. You pay a fucking old ass coach $1 million and that's the shit he puts out on the field, and then you're considering brining him back? Whne does Romo's protection factor into any of this? Now is this Garrett's doing or Jones? If it's Garrett, then this is a case I would welcome Jones' meddling if it results on Huock being fired. The old fuck is just hanging around to collect a nice hefty paycheck.

If you're going to keep him... does this mean you are going to give him a raise? You can't expect him to take a paycut. The Cowboys' way: having the highest-paid position coach with the worst unit in the NFL.

FUCK! Let's keep Campoo. And while we're at it, let's make him the highest-paid secondary coach.

I was semi-excited when Jerry was spouting off last year that Jason had all of the control. Then, we retained Campo, and I concluded that either Jerry is still calling the shots or Jason is equally as stupid.

They tried to repalce Campo, or did you conveniently forget that?

I still think Houck might be gone, but if he returns there could be worse things.

Tyron Smith didnt seem to have a problem with Houck's coaching. Everyone on here talks about how lousy guys like Costa and Nagy are, maybe its more of a talent issue than a coach issue. And while Free wasnt as good last yr as he was in 2009 and 2010, he was pretty damn good both those years and Houck was coaching him then.

Horton was the only cb coach available that was better than Campo?

Campo, Maxie and Houck should be gone already. All three of their units have been bad every year under them. Houck's group is notorious for being decent to iffy to begin every year, then the last qtr of the season they are absolute shit. Every year.

I think the person they really wanted to hire was Jerome Henderson from Cleveland, but they wouldnt let him out of his contract. Then they tried to hire Horton, who got a better deal.

Houck's coached an awful lot of really good OL. Again if you sit there in one post and talk about how awful the talent is at a certain position (as you do quite a bit) then you really cant sit there in another post and call the coach/es awful too.

The OL certainly needs a talent upgrade, but if it were as poorly coached as some of you intimate, we'd never move the ball and score points.

Doesn't Huock's unit lead the league in penalties almost each year?

I dunno, someone would have to show some numbers.

That said even if it turned out true I wouldnt put much stock into it. Our guys get called for alot of tickey tack shit, while someone like Demarcus Ware can get gang raped on play after play and never get the holding call.

Well there is strike 1.

We are going to end up I bet with most of the same coaches and I fear alot of the same players.

Then they will drown us for 6 months about how we didn't have an offseason.

Meanwhile two rookie qb's are playing in a playoff game right now and playing well.

Sweet, as long as Dallas has 3 high 1st round picks this year we might be set.

I thought the guy was a good coach because he didn't need all the talent in the world.

To me it's not about if he is good or not.

The last two seasons are painful examples that the organization needs new talent, new voices coaching the talent and most of all better people picking the talent.

We know that third one isn't getting changed, but there is still hope on the first two.

Giving Maxie and houck jobs again just seems like a mistake.

Sometimes change just for the sake of change is the best move.

The last two times we have had major organizational changes we had immediate success. 03 and 07.

The clock is ticking on romo and ware so basically on the whole thing.

Time to go heavy in free agency and react with a sense of urgency.

I'm not happy about it, but it's a start. Campo would be the first one I'd like to see fired.

Now if Sparano comes back where does that put him? If Houck is still here he won't coach the Oline.

He'd have to call plays. I know it has a lot to do with the talent on defense, but someone has to pay the price.

There are coaches out there that can coach mediocre players. Jeff Fisher comes to mind. I know he's not coming here, but he knows how to coach up below average players. Just using him as an example.

Coaching changes are needed, especially on the secondary and offensive line. Houck has had his time and he needs to retire.
