Jason Garrett keeps starting RB a secret

IRVING, Texas – The Cowboys still haven’t discussed whether record-setting rookie running back DeMarco Murray will start Sunday night, according to head coach Jason Garrett.

“We’ll have those discussions as the week progresses,” Garrett said, “and we’ll make those decisions at the end of the week.”

Honestly, what is there to discuss?

Felix Jones will miss at least one more game with a high ankle sprain. That means the coaching staff must choose whether to start Murray or Tashard Choice.

Hmmm, should they go with the guy who averages 6.6 yards per carry or the one who averages 2.7? Should they start the back who set a franchise record with 253 rushing yards last week or the one who has lost fumbles the last two games?

Choice started against the Rams, but it seemed to be a sort of ceremonial honor for the four-year veteran. Murray had 25 carries in the rout of the Rams, including the 91-yard touchdown the first time he touched the ball. Choice carried only twice in the game.

Garrett certainly isn’t the first coach to treat starting assignments like state secrets. However, it’s a stretch to think that there is any strategic advantage to being tight-lipped about the depth chart at running back this week.

The Eagles are surely preparing for Murray. They’re probably praying for Choice.

Does not matter who starts, but who gets the carries. If the carry distribution is anything like last week I will be fine with it. Just give Choice's carries to Tanner.
