This is a for real post . . .
For a few years now, I've been arguing that Jerry Jones had evolved into a quality GM.
Those were my exact words - and I was careful to word it like that.
And while I think he has shown improvement from the 1996-2002 days . . . it is clear to me now that he . . . well . . . sucks as a GM.
I think he does a much better job of delegating now, and of listening to the advice of those close to him. I think he has made some good decisions lately, with regards to not only releasing older players and going with youth . . . but with also letting Ireland go and sticking with Ciscowski, who is the better guy.
But it's Jerry's need for the spotlight. His need to get the credit. His inability to realize that if he turned the organization over to true football personnel, the winning that would likely follow would make him more money and get his team more coverage than any goofball Hard Knocks or the three city training camps, or any of the other bullshit he puts this team through.
Never again will I try to defend Jerry Jones.
Because I ultimately know that the Dallas Cowboys will never win a Super Bowl again with Jerry at the helm.
Players like DeMarcus Ware, Tony Romo, Miles Austin, Dez Bryant, Jason Witten, etc. Arguably some of the greatest players we've ever had at their respective positions (yes, I'm jumping the gun on Dez, I know) won't win a Championship in Dallas.
Because with Jerry in charge, the focus will never be on football. It'll always be on the spotlight. On grabbing the attention. On interrupting practices to shake a celebrity's hand.
This depresses me as a fan. I'll still tune in every Sunday. I'll still root for this team. And I'll still hope beyond home that I'm wrong -- but I know I'm not.
Mother. Fuck.
