This is a for real post . . .

For a few years now, I've been arguing that Jerry Jones had evolved into a quality GM.

Those were my exact words - and I was careful to word it like that.

And while I think he has shown improvement from the 1996-2002 days . . . it is clear to me now that he . . . well . . . sucks as a GM.

I think he does a much better job of delegating now, and of listening to the advice of those close to him. I think he has made some good decisions lately, with regards to not only releasing older players and going with youth . . . but with also letting Ireland go and sticking with Ciscowski, who is the better guy.

But it's Jerry's need for the spotlight. His need to get the credit. His inability to realize that if he turned the organization over to true football personnel, the winning that would likely follow would make him more money and get his team more coverage than any goofball Hard Knocks or the three city training camps, or any of the other bullshit he puts this team through.

Never again will I try to defend Jerry Jones.

Because I ultimately know that the Dallas Cowboys will never win a Super Bowl again with Jerry at the helm.

Players like DeMarcus Ware, Tony Romo, Miles Austin, Dez Bryant, Jason Witten, etc. Arguably some of the greatest players we've ever had at their respective positions (yes, I'm jumping the gun on Dez, I know) won't win a Championship in Dallas.

Because with Jerry in charge, the focus will never be on football. It'll always be on the spotlight. On grabbing the attention. On interrupting practices to shake a celebrity's hand.

This depresses me as a fan. I'll still tune in every Sunday. I'll still root for this team. And I'll still hope beyond home that I'm wrong -- but I know I'm not.

Mother. Fuck.

That's exactly how I feel. It's very frustrating to be a Cowboys fan.

There's one silver lining in this: Jerry still has to fill up Cowboys Stadium. If he doesn't hire someone big and give him complete control he'll have a real hard time getting 30,000 people to pay money to go watch this crap.

This post depressed the he'll out of me.

I've tried my best to keep the Jerry hate to a minimum in my posts. This is a Dallas Cowboy message board afterall, not a Jerry hate site.

I've tried to keep it under wraps because we're trying to build something here, not push fellow fans away that don't want to read thread after thread of hate toward the team we all root for.

But.

Jerry is holding this team back. I sincerely believe that. I think he loves what he does and sees nothing wrong with it. He's made a hand full of good moves that I think deserves credit, I also believe that's where he gets his free pass from the fan base.

I always read/hear the "great owner but bad GM" shit. Negative. A great owner would not hire a GM to learn as he goes. He's no doubt a little better for the time he's done it. He's still bad. Stubborn old prick can't see that or refuses to admit it.

He needs to step down soon. We have a group of players that are getting older by the year. They are currently good enough to win big with a few new players in certain areas. Being the owner needs to become enough or those players will become old and useless without realizing their true potential.

I agree with your post. I also don't blame you for defending Jerry for so long. We all want the same thing. A super bowl. I've been hoping for a few years that Jerry would prove me wrong and shut me up.

The shit thing about it is I think Tom Ciscowski would make one hell of a GM.

In fact . . . I think he'll get an opportunity somewhere else in the not to distant future (as in 2-3 years at most).

Once he's gone . . . and Jerry's in his 70's . . . we're going to hell in a handbasket.

We're already going there.

Sure does sting a bit.

I do wish Jerry would just enjoy being an owner and let the football be done by the football minds.
