Probably because I thought we'd have a down year unlike the homers talking Super Bowl. I didn't think we'd win the division. I thought we'd struggle to go 9-7.
Then you have to factor in my belief that you can not win in this league when led by Jerry Jones. Add a Wade Phillips and peace in the Middle East is more likely.
Every year we go in with that leadership is a season already doomed, in my eyes. I started off this season thinking, wait...knowing, we had absolutely no chance.
So I've been devastated as a Cowboys fan long before last night. Now I'm actually encouraged that this can totally blow up in the GM's face and force real change in the offseason.
While a legion of Cowboys fans are lined up for the wrist slitting, I see potential for some light at the end of the tunnel.
Not to spin positive, but I think it's legit. We have some good talent on the roster, with playoff experience. We'll have an impact draft position. We'll have a GM who now finally knows how bad his offensive line is. And we might just have a real coach with authority over his team once again next spring.
If that scenario plays out, then this 2010 season has been productive. I'll take that over spinning our wheels with Jerry and Wade winning 10 games a year and getting bounced by the real contenders in January.
So I'm not down in the dumps right now. We need to take this step back to take two steps forward.
I'm not saying all this is going to work out and we'll win next year. No. What I'm saying is this collapse gives us a chance to win next year. A chance that we didn't have the last several years.
